Dubai Insurance Backs Dubai Government’s Crypto Payment Initiative for Public Services

Dubai Insurance Backs

Dubai Insurance has welcomed Dubai Government’s newly announced initiative allowing government fee payments through cryptocurrency, describing the move as a major milestone in the emirate’s ongoing push toward digital transformation and financial innovation.

The initiative reflects Dubai’s broader strategy to strengthen its position as a global hub for advanced financial technologies and digital assets, while accelerating the integration of blockchain-powered payment systems into everyday public services.

As global adoption of cryptocurrency and blockchain solutions continues to grow, Dubai has remained at the forefront of developing a regulated and innovation-driven ecosystem designed to support secure and seamless digital transactions across both the public and private sectors.

Earlier this year, Dubai Insurance became the first insurance company in the region to introduce a crypto-enabled digital wallet, enabling customers to pay insurance premiums and receive claim settlements using digital assets within a secure framework.

The company said the latest government initiative reinforces the increasing importance of digital currencies in the future of financial services and customer engagement.

Commenting on the development, Abdellatif Abuqurah, CEO of Dubai Insurance, said the government’s decision to enable cryptocurrency payments for public fees represents “another transformative step” in positioning Dubai among the world’s most forward-looking digital economies.

He added that the move demonstrates Dubai’s commitment to innovation, financial flexibility, and the creation of a more connected digital ecosystem for businesses and consumers.

Abuqurah noted that Dubai Insurance had already moved early into the digital assets space through the launch of its crypto-enabled wallet solution, allowing customers to transact using digital currencies in a regulated environment.

“We believe the insurance sector has a critical role to play in supporting the UAE’s digital transformation agenda by adopting innovative yet responsible financial technologies that improve customer experience, accessibility, and operational efficiency,” he said.

Dubai continues to expand initiatives tied to blockchain adoption, smart city development, and the wider digital economy, further strengthening its reputation as a leading international centre for fintech innovation and advanced financial infrastructure.

By aligning with the UAE’s wider digital vision, Dubai Insurance said it remains committed to delivering innovation-driven and customer-focused insurance solutions designed to meet the evolving needs of consumers and businesses in the digital era.
