XRP could experience a price movement of approximately 8.7% in either direction by November 8, according to options market data from Coinbase Markets, as cryptocurrency traders assess volatility following the US elections.

Based on XRP’s Wednesday morning trading price of around $1.27, the projected movement suggests a potential range between $1.16 and $1.38 over the next four days.

However, the figures represent expectations reflected in derivatives pricing rather than confirmed price targets. XRP options have consistently traded at a premium to the cryptocurrency’s historical volatility, suggesting traders are paying more to protect themselves against potential price swings.

The latest data also indicates that XRP carries the highest volatility premium relative to its typical weekly price movement among major cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana.

XRP Trades Near $1.27 Following US Election

XRP was trading at approximately $1.274 on Kraken at 7:40 a.m. German time on Wednesday, equivalent to around €1.135.

The cryptocurrency recorded a 24-hour trading range between $1.240 and $1.289, recovering from a decline of slightly more than 3% during election-night trading.

The broader cryptocurrency market experienced similar fluctuations, with Bitcoin leading the movement.

According to CryptoPotato, Bitcoin declined from approximately $77,970 to $75,740 between 21:45 and 03:10 UTC as election projections indicated Democratic majorities in both chambers of the US Congress.

Bitcoin subsequently recovered to around $77,815 on Kraken by Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, the total cryptocurrency market capitalisation fell approximately 2.9% over 24 hours to around $2.58 trillion.

XRP largely followed the broader market trend, showing neither significant independent weakness nor stronger buying momentum.

Options Market Signals Higher XRP Volatility

Coinbase Markets data from November 1 indicated that traders were pricing in an 8.7% movement in XRP through November 8.

The estimate was calculated using at-the-money options, which have exercise prices close to the cryptocurrency’s prevailing market value.

Options contracts allow traders to purchase or sell an asset at a predetermined price within a specified period. Their prices reflect several factors, including expectations about future market volatility.

Implied volatility measures the level of price fluctuation anticipated by options traders and is typically expressed as an annualised percentage.

According to figures reported by The Crypto Basic on November 3, XRP’s expected movement of 8.7% significantly exceeds its historical median seven-day movement of 4.9%.

This means the options market is pricing a move approximately 1.76 times larger than XRP’s typical weekly price change.

Using a standard square-root-of-time calculation, the projected seven-day movement corresponds to annualised implied volatility slightly above 60%.

Under a conventional statistical interpretation, a one-standard-deviation range captures approximately 68% of outcomes, assuming the underlying pricing model’s assumptions hold.

The estimated range should therefore be viewed as a measure of market expectations rather than a guaranteed trading boundary.

XRP Leads Major Cryptocurrencies in Volatility Premium

XRP has the largest relative volatility premium among four major cryptocurrencies tracked in the Coinbase Markets comparison.

While Solana shares XRP’s expected 8.7% movement, its historical weekly price fluctuations are considerably larger, making its relative premium smaller.

Cryptocurrency Expected move by Nov. 8 Historical 7-day move Ratio
XRP 8.7% 4.9% 1.76x
Bitcoin 5.8% 3.5% 1.66x
Ethereum 7.7% 5.1% 1.51x
Solana 8.7% 6.5% 1.34x

The figures, based on Coinbase Markets data from November 1 and reported by The Crypto Basic, show that XRP’s expected movement exceeds its historical median by 3.8 percentage points.

Bitcoin’s implied movement stands at 5.8%, compared with its typical seven-day change of 3.5%, while Ethereum’s expected fluctuation of 7.7% compares with a historical median of 5.1%.

Solana’s implied movement of 8.7% is closer to its usual weekly fluctuation of 6.5%, resulting in the lowest relative premium among the four cryptocurrencies.

Elevated Options Premium Is Not Unusual for XRP

Although XRP’s current volatility expectations are significantly above its historical median, similar conditions have appeared in previous months.

In September 2026, XRP options reflected an expected weekly movement of approximately 8.9%, compared with a historical average close to 5%.

This suggests that traders have regularly been willing to pay higher premiums for XRP options, rather than the latest reading representing an exceptional change in market sentiment.

Options premiums can rise when investors seek protection against unexpected price movements or anticipate increased market uncertainty.

For traders, the distinction is important because elevated implied volatility does not necessarily mean that an equally large price movement will occur.

What the $1.16 to $1.38 Range Means for XRP

Based on Wednesday’s reference price of approximately $1.274, the 8.7% implied movement translates into an indicative trading range of about $1.16 to $1.38.

A move towards either level would be consistent with the magnitude currently reflected in options prices, although the actual market outcome could fall inside or outside that range.

The calculation does not indicate whether XRP is more likely to rise or decline.

With cryptocurrency markets adjusting to the US election outcome and traders monitoring potential developments involving the XRP Ledger, short-term price movements remain uncertain.

For now, the derivatives market indicates that investors are prepared for substantial fluctuations, even as XRP continues to trade broadly in line with the wider cryptocurrency market.

The November 8 deadline will provide a clearer indication of whether the elevated volatility priced into XRP options translates into significant market movement or proves greater than the price change ultimately recorded.
