Bitcoin climbed back above the $80,000 mark on Wednesday, October 28, supported by gains in artificial intelligence-related technology stocks and signs of easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The recovery helped improve sentiment across the cryptocurrency market ahead of a closely watched US Federal Reserve interest rate decision.

According to CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin was trading at $80,802 at approximately 8 a.m., representing a 1.20% increase over the previous 24 hours. The world’s largest cryptocurrency regained the psychologically important $80,000 level after briefly slipping below it a day earlier.

Other major digital assets also recorded gains. Ethereum advanced 1.65%, while XRP rose 2.78%. Solana gained 0.99%, and Hyperliquid increased 4.72%, reflecting a broader recovery across the cryptocurrency market.

Cryptocurrency Market Sentiment Shows Signs of Recovery

Investor confidence improved modestly as cryptocurrency prices moved higher.

CoinMarketCap’s Crypto Fear and Greed Index rose to 45, placing market sentiment in neutral territory. The reading increased from 43 the previous day but remained below the levels of 51 recorded a week earlier and 72 a month ago.

The figures suggest that investors remain cautious despite the latest price recovery.

In South Korea, cryptocurrency exchange Upbit reported a 1.10% increase in its composite market index to 10,781. Total market capitalisation also rose 1.08% to 3,346.72 trillion won, equivalent to approximately $2.5 trillion.

However, trading activity weakened during the same period. Upbit’s 24-hour trading volume declined 14.39% to 1.23 trillion won, or approximately $927 million.

The decline in trading volumes suggests that the latest price gains were not accompanied by a corresponding increase in market participation.

AI and Semiconductor Stocks Support Bitcoin’s Recovery

The rebound in digital assets followed a strong performance by technology stocks on Wall Street.

On October 27, major US stock indexes advanced for a second consecutive session, with the technology-heavy Nasdaq leading the gains.

Investor interest in artificial intelligence and semiconductor companies strengthened following reports that AI developer Anthropic was pursuing an initial public offering.

Additional reports surrounding a major financing initiative involving Broadcom further supported technology shares.

The developments encouraged renewed investment in growth-oriented assets, including cryptocurrencies, which often respond to changes in broader market risk sentiment.

Bitcoin’s recovery reflected this improvement in investor confidence, although uncertainty surrounding interest rates and inflation continued to influence trading decisions.

Easing Middle East Tensions Help Oil Prices Retreat

Signs of diplomatic progress in the Middle East provided additional support for financial markets.

Reports indicated that Iran and three countries associated with the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey, had agreed to continue discussions aimed at reducing regional tensions.

The developments contributed to a decline in international oil prices, easing some concerns about energy-driven inflation.

December Brent crude futures fell 1.67% to settle at $113.88 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate declined 1.83% to $99.90.

Lower oil prices can help reduce inflationary pressures, potentially improving the outlook for risk-sensitive assets.

The combination of stronger technology shares and declining crude prices helped support cryptocurrency markets following recent volatility.

Bitcoin and Major Cryptocurrency Performance

The following figures reflect market movements reported by CoinMarketCap at approximately 8 a.m. on October 28.

Cryptocurrency Price 24-Hour Change
Bitcoin (BTC) $80,802 +1.20%
Ethereum (ETH) Not specified +1.65%
XRP Not specified +2.78%
Solana (SOL) Not specified +0.99%
Hyperliquid (HYPE) Not specified +4.72%

The gains indicate a broad improvement across major cryptocurrencies, although trading volumes and sentiment indicators suggest the recovery remains fragile.

Federal Reserve Interest Rate Decision Takes Centre Stage

Investor attention has now shifted toward the US Federal Reserve’s monetary policy announcement, scheduled for October 28.

The central bank is expected to release its interest rate decision at 2 p.m. Eastern Time, followed by a press conference from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh at 2:30 p.m.

Financial markets will closely examine Warsh’s comments for indications of future monetary policy, particularly regarding inflation and the possibility of additional interest rate increases.

Inflation remains a significant concern for policymakers, with investors also monitoring upcoming US gross domestic product and personal consumption expenditures inflation figures.

Before the latest recovery, Bitcoin had declined to approximately $79,841 as traders reduced risk exposure ahead of the Federal Reserve meeting.

Institutional investment flows also reflected the cautious outlook.

US-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded combined net outflows of approximately $772.4 million on October 22 and 23, indicating weaker demand through these investment vehicles.

Meanwhile, Strategy, one of the largest corporate Bitcoin holders, reportedly paused its cryptocurrency purchases for the first time in five weeks.

These developments added pressure to Bitcoin before the broader market recovery.

Analysts Identify $82,500 as Bitcoin’s Next Key Level

Blockchain analytics platform Santiment suggested that Bitcoin could extend its recovery toward the $82,500 to $84,000 range if it maintains support above $80,000.

A continued reduction in Bitcoin holdings on cryptocurrency exchanges could also provide support, potentially indicating lower immediate selling pressure.

However, analysts cautioned that a sustained move above $82,500 would depend on upcoming macroeconomic developments.

The Federal Reserve’s policy announcement, economic growth figures and inflation data are expected to influence whether Bitcoin can maintain its upward momentum.

A more restrictive monetary policy outlook could limit gains in cryptocurrencies, while signs of easing inflationary pressures may encourage investors to increase their exposure to riskier assets.

Crypto Market Outlook Hinges on US Monetary Policy

Bitcoin’s return above $80,000 has provided some relief for cryptocurrency investors following a period of market uncertainty.

Nevertheless, the recovery comes as global financial markets balance optimism surrounding artificial intelligence investments against concerns about inflation, interest rates and geopolitical developments.

While stronger technology stocks and declining oil prices have supported the latest gains, the Federal Reserve’s policy outlook remains a critical factor for the market.

Investors are likely to focus less on whether the central bank leaves rates unchanged and more on signals regarding its next policy moves.

The strength of those signals could determine whether Bitcoin advances toward the $84,000 level or faces renewed selling pressure in the sessions ahead.
