Bitcoin recovered toward the $79,000 level after slipping below $77,000 amid renewed tensions between the United States and Iran, showing resilience despite a broader risk-off mood across global financial markets.
The world’s largest cryptocurrency was trading around $79,000 on Tuesday after moving sharply lower during the previous session. Bitcoin’s recovery came as investors weighed geopolitical risks, rising oil prices and growing expectations of tighter U.S. monetary policy.

ToggleBitcoin Holds Near $79,000
Bitcoin’s latest move follows a highly volatile period for the cryptocurrency. After recording a strong rally in August, BTC faced a correction that pushed its price below $75,500 before buyers returned to the market.
The recovery subsequently carried Bitcoin above $81,000, with the asset briefly reaching around $81,500, its strongest level in more than three months. The rally was later interrupted by renewed selling pressure.
Market sentiment weakened further after Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh struck a hawkish tone during his Jackson Hole remarks, reinforcing expectations that interest rates could remain higher for longer. Rate-hike expectations have since increased, adding pressure to risk-sensitive assets such as cryptocurrencies.
Renewed U.S.-Iran military tensions added another layer of uncertainty. Rising oil prices and concerns over potential disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz have contributed to broader market volatility, while investors have increasingly moved toward defensive assets.
Despite the pressure, Bitcoin has remained relatively resilient and continues to trade close to the $79,000 mark.
Monero Outperforms Major Altcoins
While Bitcoin has focused on recovering recent losses, Monero has emerged as one of the strongest performers among major cryptocurrencies.
XMR gained more than 6% on Tuesday, according to market data, extending its recent upward momentum. The cryptocurrency has also recorded significant gains over the past week and month.
Other major altcoins have been less convincing. Ethereum remained below $2,500, while BNB continued to struggle around the $690 area. XRP also remained below $1.40 despite strong recent interest in XRP-related exchange-traded funds.
Solana and Dogecoin also faced pressure, while smaller tokens recorded sharper losses as investors reduced exposure to higher-risk assets.
Geopolitical Risks Keep Crypto Volatility Elevated
The latest market movements highlight how closely cryptocurrencies remain tied to broader macroeconomic and geopolitical developments.
Renewed U.S.-Iran tensions have pushed oil prices higher and raised concerns about inflation and global energy supplies. Brent crude moved above $90 a barrel as fears of disruption through the Strait of Hormuz intensified.
At the same time, rising Treasury yields and expectations for a possible Federal Reserve rate hike have limited the upside for risk assets. Market pricing has put the probability of a September rate increase at around 65%, adding to uncertainty for investors.
For now, Bitcoin remains above the levels seen during its recent correction, but the cryptocurrency market continues to face competing forces from strong buying interest, monetary-policy expectations and escalating geopolitical risks.
