Ras Al Khaimah unveils blockchain-based business identity system in global first

Ras Al Khaimah

RAS AL KHAIMAH, UAE  Innovation City, an AI-focused free zone in Ras Al Khaimah, has launched what it describes as the world’s first blockchain-powered digital business identity platform, marking a significant step in the United Arab Emirates’ push toward an AI-driven economy.

The system, developed in partnership with IOPn, assigns every registered company a cryptographically verifiable, blockchain-based identity built on the OPN Chain. Unlike traditional licenses stored as static documents or database entries, the new model creates a dynamic, tamper-resistant digital asset designed to evolve with a company over time.

Officials say the initiative aligns with the UAE government’s broader strategy to integrate agentic artificial intelligence across public services. Authorities recently outlined plans to transition up to half of federal operations to AI-enabled systems within the next two years—an ambition that requires secure, machine-readable business identities.

“This marks a structural shift in how companies are identified and verified,” said Paul Dawalibi, CEO of Innovation City, noting that legacy systems based on paper records and fragmented databases are increasingly incompatible with real-time, AI-led processes.

The blockchain-based identity enables instant verification of business credentials, ownership records, and compliance updates, reducing reliance on intermediaries such as auditors or registries. According to the developers, the system is designed to cut fraud risks, streamline regulatory checks, and allow banks, investors, and government entities to validate company data within seconds.

Mojtaba Asadian, CEO of IOPn, described the platform as a “sovereign infrastructure layer” capable of scaling across sectors and jurisdictions. He added that blockchain-backed identities could become a cornerstone for cross-border digital commerce and regulatory interoperability.

Key features of the system include permanent audit trails of corporate changes, compatibility with Ethereum-based technologies, and high-speed transaction processing intended to support large-scale adoption. The platform is also positioned as foundational infrastructure for AI systems tasked with autonomously handling licensing, taxation, and compliance workflows.

Analysts say such developments could give early adopters a competitive edge, particularly as governments and financial institutions move toward automated verification systems. Companies operating within Innovation City may benefit from faster onboarding, improved credibility, and streamlined access to digital services.

The launch reinforces Ras Al Khaimah’s ambitions to position itself as a hub for emerging technologies including Web3, robotics, and health tech. While many jurisdictions continue to explore digital transformation strategies, Innovation City’s rollout signals a shift toward fully integrated, blockchain-native business frameworks.

With the introduction of on-chain business identities, the emirate is betting that the future of commerce will rely less on paperwork and more on verifiable, interoperable digital infrastructure laying the groundwork for AI-powered governance and global digital trade.
